It’s time that Bill Belichick puts a serious offer in front of DeAndre Hopkins
Titans offer DeAndre Hopkins more than Patriots, concerns about Mac Jones leading offense, potential repercussions for Belichick, time for significant offer.
So, there's been some reports making the rounds that caught my attention. Apparently, the Tennessee Titans have made a more aggressive offer to free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins compared to the New England Patriots. This news concerns me for several reasons. The biggest worry I have is whether Patriots’ quarterback, Mac Jones, is capable enough to lead to the offense and position New England as Super Bowl contenders without the addition of a star receiver like Hopkins.
Now, I've been a huge defender of Bill Belichick in the past. Some even accuse me of being a Belichick sycophant. However, if Hopkins ends up signing with the Titans, it will be hard for me to defend this decision by Belichick. We all know that Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft is demanding a return to the playoffs and has a pipe dream of winning the Super Bowl this season. But, let's face it, the Patriots' offense as currently constructed is not up to par.
If Tom Brady were still the quarterback, I would have no fear going into the season. With Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki, receivers like DeVante Parker, Tyquan Thornton, and JuJu Smith-Schuster, Tom Brady would've been licking his chops to have such a strong offensive lineup. Plus, let's not forget about the Patriots' phenomenal running backs. Outside of 2007, I don’t think Belichick ever gave Brady an offense this strong. But this is not Brady's Patriots anymore; it's Mac Jones' Patriots.
I believe that Bill Belichick should have the right to decide when he's finished in New England. However, if DeAndre Hopkins ends up in Tennessee and the Patriots fail to make the playoffs or have an early embarrassing exit, Robert Kraft might make a decision none of us ever thought possible – he might fire Bill Belichick.
So, maybe it’s time that Belichick puts a significant offer in front of Hopkins.
